Chemicals In Your Skin Care

We all strive to be healthy & glowing from the inside out but forget one important factor.... CHEMICAL EXPOSURE! In today's world we are surrounded by pollution, chemicals & false marketing from Major Cosmetic Companies whom paint a picture of healthy skin through air brushed models & the promise of a healthy GLOW!

We focus so much energy & time on what we eat, the supplements we take & our exercise routines that we forget about what we are putting on our skin, the chemicals used in most big brand name cosmetics as listed below are not only being absorbed through the skin into your system but reeking havoc on your insides & causing free radical damage. The skin is actually quite an uncomplicated organ & only needs the basics to be happy, nourished & glowing.

The skin naturally produces SEBUM from the Sebaceous Gland which is an oil used in the protection & hydration of the skin. When the skin is dehydrated or dried out from over cleansing with harsh chemicals it can then over produce causing skin issues like blemishes, blackheads & white heads. So as you see can see, THE SKIN IS NOT COMPLICATED! Don't be sucked in to gimmicks, marketing & false promises as if you EAT WELL, KEEP HYDRATED & USE A BASIC NATURAL SKIN CARE RANGE YOUR SKIN & INSIDES WILL BLOSSOM WITH VITALITY.

Common Chemicals To Watch:
  • Parabens
  • Mineral Oils
  • Paba & EDTA
  • Petro Chemicals
  • All Sulphates
  • preservatives
  • animal derivatives
Here is a link to an A-Z list of harmful chemicals used in your comercial skin care & cosmetics. When unsure always check your labels against this list.

This is the BIBLE when it comes to additives in not only your food but cosmetics. This book can be purchased from all good book stores, healthfood stores & online from the link below.

Nutrition Tips:
  • Keep hydrated, allot of skin issues can be resolved with simply increasing your daily water intake.
  • Cut out refined sugars & foods high in saturated fats. (PACKAGED FOODS)
  • Keep your blood sugar levels regulated e.g. skipping meals, have small snacks throughout the day.
  • many brands claim to put high potency Vitamin C on your skin when in fact it is much better to take a good quality Vitamin C powder e.g. Collagen synthesis.
  • Add Super Greens & Fresh Juices into your daily routine as this combats free radical damage, Oxidative stress & increases your intake of Antioxidants.
  • Eating a balanced diet full of wholefoods, Maxim hydration & limited packaged foods will have not only your skin glowing but your insides to.
  • RELAX -  stress also is a major precursor in oxidative stress which in turn effects your skin. Enjoy Yoga, Meditation, Reading, Painting or whatever it may be that gives you time out for YOU at least 3 times per week.
Brands I love To Suit All Budgets:

Nutrition tips - Raw Kale, Dehydrated snacks & using the senses for digestion

This Weeks Tips
(SMELL) Stop for a moment breathe & smell your food before indulging your taste buds as this will stimulate your digestive system. A stimulated digestive system = efficient absorption & a comfortable digestive process. Try this for one week, see if you can build a routine & before you think to smell your memory repsonse will be on auto drive... SMELL!

SNACK or TREAT  - Dehydrated fruit is the perfect snack to replace packaged snacks, they are jamed packed with nutritional goodness & are 100% natural. In today's society kids lunch boxes are full of packaged snack foods which as we all know contain harmful chemicals & additives which effect concentration, mood, energy levels, blood sugar levels & children who suffer from attention deficit disorders. If you don't own a dehydrater don't stress it, these goodies are available from all good health food stores & bulk food stores. Some of my favorite dehydrated snacks include bananas, mangos, strawberries & apples.

RAW GOODNESS - Kale can sometimes be a little corse for some peoples liking when used as a base in nourishing raw salads, here is a tip that will raw cook your kale whilst still locking in all those essential nutrients we all love. Once your Kale has been washed & chopped, place in a large salad bowl & squeeze over half a lemon & half a lime followed by a sprinkle of either Himalayan or Celtic rosk salts. The enzymes & acids in the citrus will cook the kale leaves & turn them a beautiful shade of fluresent green, allow to sit for 15 mins for raw cooking time.

Digestive issues, Fatigue, Poor Immunity? Pre & Probiotics for LIFE!

Pre & Probiotics

Prebiotics... how healthy is the enviroment in which your Probiotic good bacteria can live, strive & maintain an effective & healthy digestive balance within your digestive tract... Most people start with a probiotics, when in fact you are much better off to start with a pre & probitoc as the prebiotics not only interior decorate the living environment for the probiotics but feed them, making them vital & serving their purpose to the best of their ability.

In this day & age many health conditions are related to poor gut flora like Chronic Fatigue, headaches, IBS, Bloating & many other common conditions. This is caused because if you don't have the GUT integrity e.g. a health environment for your gut flora to live in & getting your probiotics daily it can cause the villi in the small intestine to die or shorten, this means that you can have all the abundant food in your diet but may not be getting any of the nutrients from them as all the nutrients from the foods we consume are absorbed in the small intestine by our villi, so healthy gut flora = healthy villi which = a healthy & abundant you.

There are many foods in which we can get our prebiotics & probiotics from. However with the beat of the daily grind it can be hard to get these in your daily diet so another great way to do this is through purchasing a good quality Pre & Probiotic powder of caps from your local Nutritionist, Naturopath or Heath food store. I cant stress enough the importance of a healthy digestive system & how incorporating this into your daily diet will keep you vital through maintaining not only maximum absorption of nutrients but a strong immune system & healthy digestive system. Enjoy the essence of good bacteria & nourish the bodies most important system for optimal health.

The Benefits of Pre & Probiotics together:
  • Helping to prevent Bloating, IBS & Constipation.
  • Improves Immunity
  • Protecting the gut of harmful Microorganisms
  • Maintain healthy Villi of the small intestine
  • Stabilising Blood glucose levels
  • Improving absorption of Minerals & Vitamins
  • Helps to lower triglyceride levels
  • can help in Chronic & Acute disease states e.g. Stomach bugs.
Sources of Prebiotics:
  • Bananas
  • berries
  • Raw oats
  • legumes
  • greens
  • flaxseed
Sources of Probiotics:
  • Fermented foods like Miso, Natto & Tempeh
  • Kefir Yoghurt
  • Cultured dairy products

To survive the festive season make sure you are taking a good quality Pre & Probiotic supplement as this will insure the maintenance of your digestive system whilst consuming festive indulgences.

Yours in Health, Peace :-)

Green Power

Super Greens:

Super greens are fast becoming a daily ritual for your general health enthusiast & for good reason, this potent mix of phyto nutrients, Antioxidants, Vitamins & Minerals will have your insides cleansed with purity, your eyes beaming white, skin glowing with vibrancy, vitality & health. Below you will find my favourite 4 super greens that I have on a daily basis & what health benefits are associated with each.

When Purchasing your super greens I find it beneficial to find one that has all four in the mix, certified organic & if available to you from a bulk health food store as this way you know exactly what your getting & tends to be more affordable.

Super Greens are so versatile & can be added to most foods. My favourite way of having mine are as follows. Tip: Orange Juice, Vitamin C aids in the absorption of Iron & tastes divine.
  1. Freshly Squeezed 1 Orange & 1 Serve of Super Greens.
  2. Go Green Banana, Agave, Blueberry, & Super Green Smoothie.
  3. Fresh Vegetable Juice, Beetroot, Carrot, Tomato, Lemon, Ginger & Super Greens.
Super 4 Greens
  1. Spirulina Is jam packed with over 100 nutrients, exceptionally Vitamin A & is considered to be the most complete food group in the world as it is a complete protein. It is full of antioxidants, Aids detoxification & has a antimicrobial effect on the body which aids immunity. Many studies have been conducted on Spirulina and its adverse affects on patients suffering from HIV, Heart Disease, Influenza & herpes.
  2. Chlorella  was first discovered in the 1960's & earned its credit due to it's extraordinary high levels of Zinc, Iron Magnesium, B Vitamins, Antioxidants A, C & E together with Essential Fatty Acids you can see why this little algae is so beneficial in not only your every day overall health but in acute & chronic sickness like influenza.
  3. Barley Grass Has been around for centuries & was actually found to be cultivated in Roman Times, hence their beauty blossomed through the ages. With its high amounts of Antioxidants, Vitamins, Minerals & in particular calcium, somewhat compared to a glass of milk, 10 times more Calcium & 6 times more vitamin C then A glass of Orange juice, you can see why the Romans were onto such a vital green in their everyday routine.
  4. Wheatgrass Is not only extremely high in Vitamins, Minerals & Antioxidants as mentioned in the above super greens but actually contains Eight of our essential Amino Acids, as these amino acids are essential we can not make these & can only be obtained through ones diet. This versatile little green is also amazing in the fact that it is already in its broken down form, meaning it is pre digested & does not need digestive enzymes to break it down, this means it is highly bio available & the nutrients are easily absorbed.
Enjoy everyday & GLOW with the abundance of HEALTH. Peace
